In Kyiv, Sandu will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, then visit Chornobyl, where she will honor the memory of the disaster victims on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl NPP accident.

The accident at the Chornobyl NPP, located 120 km from Kyiv, occurred on April 26, 1986, and became the largest disaster in the history of nuclear power. Following the explosion and fire in the fourth reactor unit, a huge amount of radioactive substances was released into the atmosphere. Many European countries were affected by radioactive contamination.
