Poland could defend itself in the event of a Russian invasion for a week or two, given the amount of ammunition at its disposal. At the same time, this applies not to all shells, but only to old-style ammunition, there are no problems with new equipment, UNN writes with reference to RMF24.

The head of the National Security Bureau of Poland, General Dariusz Łukowski, told reporters that in many areas the country really has limited reserves. This is especially true of outdated weapons. The problem is that ammunition is no longer produced for such weapons, so there may be problems with them.

At the same time, the situation with new equipment and weapons looks much better, because they have been received in recent years. Łukowski drew attention to the fact that the purchase of new equipment was carried out together with the purchase of ammunition for it.

Łukowski also noted that the country's reserves have been significantly depleted due to the war that Russia has unleashed against Ukraine. Old reserves are being depleted due to the assistance provided by Poland, together with its European allies, to our state.

Summing up, Łukowski said that with today's ammunition reserves, Poland could conduct combat operations for one to two weeks in a war with Russia.

"Depending on the nature of the hostilities, the defense could last a week or two at the current level of reserves," Łukowski said.

At the same time, the general added that Poland now has two to three years in reserve to restore its capabilities. This became possible thanks to the resistance of Ukraine, which continues to fight and does not surrender to the Russian aggressor.

Addition

In Poland plans to strengthen security on the border with Belarus - additional border guard patrols will guard areas that are in particular danger.
