The Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor's Office has proven in court the guilt of a 46-year-old man who attempted to sell an 11-month-old baby abroad under the guise of adoption by foreigners. This was reported by UNN with reference to the prosecutor's office press service.
Details
According to the investigation, in June 2025, the man was convicted of embezzling over 6.3 million UAH in state aid intended for the family of a fallen serviceman.
Abusing the family's trust as the fallen soldier's godfather, he transferred funds to his own accounts, withdrew cash, and spent it on personal needs
The convict, who previously worked as an educator at a local boarding school, attempted to organize the illegal removal of an 11-month-old boy abroad under the guise of adoption. He expected to earn approximately 25,000 dollars.
The man made an agreement with a woman from Zhytomyr, who was in difficult life circumstances, that for 5,000 USD she would give the baby up for adoption to Spain. He met with the potential victim twice and, during their communication, took photos of the boy to show to potential clients
The perpetrator was exposed in 2023 at the "Mali Selmentsi" checkpoint while attempting to cross the state border with the child. Since then, the man has been held in custody. By the verdict of the Uzhhorod City District Court, he was sentenced to the maximum penalty under Part 2 of Art. 15 and Part 3 of Art. 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
