Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin has signed a new classified strategy to counter the impact of unmanned systems, the US Department of Defense reported.

As noted in the Pentagon, drones are growing in their capabilities and pose an increasing threat to the United States and its allies.

Thanks to growing commercial innovations and improvements in artificial intelligence, autonomy, and network technologies, unmanned systems are radically changing the ways in which armed forces of all sizes, potentials, and capabilities, as well as non-state actors, achieve their goals

It is noted that the new strategy is classified. However, it is reported that it provides for a better understanding of the threats posed by unmanned systems, and improving the ability of the US armed forces to detect, track and characterize these threats.

Another aspect of the strategy is to integrate efforts and knowledge to counter unmanned systems into existing U.S. military doctrine, organization, training, material base, leadership, personnel, facilities, and policy.

Through this strategy, the department is also committed to implementing adapted UAV countermeasures faster and on a larger scale, including through closer cooperation with U.S. partners and allies.
