Pakistan awaits Tehran's response regarding participation in the dialogue before the truce ends. The US plans to send a delegation led by J.D. Vance.

Iran has not yet confirmed its participation in peace talks in Pakistan this week. This was stated by Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar in his message on X, adding that his country has made "sincere efforts to persuade" Iran to participate in the talks, UNN reports with reference to CNN.

"The official response from the Iranian side confirming the participation of a delegation in the peace talks in Islamabad is still awaited," Tarar said, adding that his country is in "constant contact with the Iranians and is pursuing paths of diplomacy and dialogue."

The minister stated that the current truce between Tehran and Washington ends at 4:50 a.m. Pakistan time on Wednesday (7:50 p.m. ET today). US President Donald Trump said yesterday that the truce expires "Wednesday night Washington time."

"Iran's decision to participate in the talks before the two-week truce expires is crucial," Tarar said.

"Pakistan has made sincere efforts to persuade the Iranian leadership to participate in the second round of talks, and these efforts are ongoing," he added.

Earlier today, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar called on the US and Iran to "consider extending the ceasefire" and "give dialogue and diplomacy a chance," according to a statement from the ministry's press service.

On April 20, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said that his country "has no plans for the next round of talks" at the moment, despite Iranian sources previously telling CNN that a delegation representing Tehran would travel to Pakistan for the talks.

According to sources familiar with the plans, US Vice President J.D. Vance is expected to travel to Pakistan today with senior American officials for the latest round of talks, although he is still in Washington, and it is unclear when he is scheduled to depart.
