Over 60% of Ukrainians consider it categorically unacceptable to transfer the entire Donbas under Russian control in exchange for security guarantees. UNN reports this, citing a survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.

The survey was conducted from August 20 to August 3, 2026, in all regions of Ukraine except territories occupied by Russian forces. A total of 974 respondents were surveyed—the survey involved Ukrainian citizens aged 18 and over.
An absolute majority of respondents—77%—share the view that the Russians are advancing, but slowly and with heavy losses, and that Ukraine is capable of continuing effective resistance. 12% of respondents believe that the Russians are making significant advances, while another 11 respondents were unable to decide on their view.
60% of respondents consider it categorically unacceptable to transfer the entire Donbas under Russia's control in exchange for security guarantees. At the same time, 33% are ready to accept such a concession (although the majority of them acknowledge that this is a difficult condition). Another 7% were unable to decide on their view.
As for the scenario of "freezing" the war along the current front line in exchange for security guarantees in the form of substantial funding and weapons supplies, 59% are ready to approve it (although mostly reluctantly). A total of 31% are categorically opposed to this scenario.
21% of Ukrainians expect the war to end at least by the end of this year. Meanwhile, 45% expect the war to end either in the second half of next year, 2027, or later.
61% of respondents answered that they are ready to endure for as long as necessary.
