The Security Service of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigation have dismantled a corruption scheme at Ivano-Frankivsk Customs by detaining the head of a key department who demanded bribes from importers in exchange for not creating obstacles during customs clearance of their goods.

The Security Service of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigation have eliminated a corruption scheme at Ivano-Frankivsk Customs by detaining the head of one of the key departments who demanded bribes from importers. This was reported by the press service of the SBU, UNN reports .

According to the investigation, the official organized a criminal mechanism for receiving money from representatives of importing companies. In exchange for the bribes, the official "guaranteed" the entrepreneurs not to create artificial obstacles during the customs clearance of their goods,

It is noted that to implement the "scheme", the defendant involved several customs brokers from Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia customs. One of them was involved in the deal as an intermediary for transferring bribes from entrepreneurs.

SBU officers documented 4 facts of receiving illegal benefits by the offenders. After that, law enforcement officers detained the organizer of the crime and the intermediary red-handed while receiving a new "tranche".

The issue of serving a notice of suspicion to both detainees under Part 3 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official) is currently being decided. The offenders face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
