The film "Spider-Man: A Brand New Day" grossed $355 million in the US, becoming the second biggest debut in history after "Avengers: Endgame." Worldwide box office reached $927 million.

An adventure film based on comics from Sony and Marvel, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," has surpassed all box office expectations, grossing an impressive $355 million in 4,487 North American theaters, reports UNN citing Variety.

This is the second-largest debut in U.S. box office history after 2019's "Avengers: Endgame" with $357 million, not adjusted for inflation.

"Brand New Day" could break the all-time record if final Monday grosses exceed expectations, the publication notes.

No other film has ever come close to the $300 million mark in a single weekend. The third-largest domestic opening weekend belongs to 2021's "Spider-Man: No Way Home" with $260 million, followed by 2018's "Avengers: Infinity War" with $257 million. Thus, Marvel Studios now boasts the four biggest domestic debuts of all time in the U.S.

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" grossed $573 million internationally, bringing its total to an impressive $927 million worldwide, underscoring Peter Parker's broad global popularity. This will be the second-largest global debut after "Avengers: Endgame," which grossed a staggering $1.2 billion in its opening weekend.

Sony spent about $225 million on producing "Brand New Day," not including marketing costs. Destin Daniel Cretton ("Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings") directed "New Day," which has drawn euphoric reactions from critics and audiences. It holds a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an "A" CinemaScore from exit polls.

"This is truly a phenomenal debut, and we are grateful to audiences around the world for coming out and seeing our film as it was intended," said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, who produced the film. "This debut reflects the enduring power of Marvel characters and the connection they continue to maintain with fans worldwide — and, as audiences have seen, it sets us up for exciting events."

Despite the buzz around "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" remained appealing, grossing $51 million in its third weekend. Together, they made for the biggest overall weekend in box office history, with approximately $430 million grossed across all films. The best weekend before this was, of course, "Avengers: Endgame" ($402 million total), followed by "Avengers: Infinity War" ($314 million total).
