NATO to help Ukraine modernize defense procurement processes

NATO and Ukrainian representatives will meet to discuss modernizing Ukraine's defense procurement processes to make them faster, more sustainable, transparent and in line with NATO best practices and standards, paving the way for Ukraine's future membership in the Alliance.

This week, representatives of NATO and Ukraine will meet to discuss the modernization of procurement processes for the Defense Forces. This was reported by UNN with reference to the NATO press service.

Details

It is noted that Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Dmytro Klymenkov and Tom Hofus, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Operations, will meet in Luxembourg. Stacy Cummings, General Manager of the NATO Support and Procurement Agency, will also join the meeting.

The parties plan to discuss modernizing Ukraine's defense procurement processes to make them faster, more sustainable and transparent.

Improving defense procurement remains a priority for Ukraine, and NATO is committed to assisting this process to ensure it is in line with Alliance best practices

As explained by NATO, the review of strategic defense procurement between NATO and Ukraine is part of the Alliance's Comprehensive Assistance Package, an initiative launched in 2016 to support Ukraine's ability to strengthen its security and implement wide-ranging reforms.

The review, which is supported by Norway and commissioned by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, is being conducted by experts from various NATO countries and Ukraine in close cooperation with the NATO Procurement Agency. 

The review aims to help Ukraine reform its defense procurement system and bring it in line with NATO best practices and standards. 

The Alliance's recommendations will contribute to greater accountability, transparency and interoperability, helping to pave the way for Ukraine's future membership in the Alliance.

It is noted that this conference will be the beginning of the first phase of the Review, which provides for the creation of working groups to develop a set of policy recommendations to be approved at the Washington Summit in July.
