One of France's most famous actresses, Nathalie Baye, has died. She passed away at the age of 77 in Paris on April 17, the BBC reports, writes UNN.

According to French media, citing her family, the actress died at home after a long illness. She had a neurodegenerative disease – Lewy body dementia.
Over a career spanning almost 50 years, Baye starred in more than 90 films and became one of France's most acclaimed actresses. She won four César Awards – twice for Best Supporting Actress (1981, 1982) and twice for Best Actress (1983, 2006). In 1999, she won the Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival.

Nathalie Baye was born in Normandy in 1948. Due to dyslexia, she left school at 14 and went to Monaco, where she studied ballet. Her acting career actively developed from the 1970s after collaborating with famous French directors, including François Truffaut, Maurice Pialat, Claude Sautet, and Jean-Luc Godard.
