Ariadna Montiel has become the new leader of the Morena party. New heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture were also appointed in the Mexican government.

Mexico's ruling Morena party has elected former Welfare Minister Ariadna Montiel as its new national leader. This was reported by Bloomberg, according to UNN.

The decision was announced on Sunday. The party stated that Montiel possesses "firm principles and an absolute commitment to the welfare of the people."

The 51-year-old politician is one of the founders of Morena and is considered a close ally of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Until recently, she served in the cabinet of President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Personnel changes in the government

Montiel succeeds Luisa María Alcalde, who left the post in April to take a position as legal counsel in the President's office.

Other personnel reshuffles have recently taken place in the Mexican government. Columba López Gutiérrez, who specializes in rural development, has taken over as Minister of Agriculture.
