In Chuvashia, Russia, more than 200 people were poisoned in a school cafeteria due to expired food, UNN reports, citing the Russian media.

Six children are hospitalized in moderate condition. Another 199 people, including seven adults, are undergoing outpatient treatment with a mild degree of severity, the regional Ministry of Health said in a statement.

The first reports of mass poisoning in the dining room of school No. 4 in Novocheboksarsk began to arrive on November 14, according to the 112 telegram channel. Parents reported that their children had a fever and symptoms of poisoning. According to preliminary data, the cause of the poisoning was school lunches.

The head of Chuvashia, Oleg Nikolayev, said that RNA of the norovirus, a causative agent of gastroenteritis (acute stomach inflammation), was found in the canteen. A criminal case was opened under the article on violation of sanitary and epidemiological requirements.

On November 15, the prosecutor's office and the Investigative Committee of Chuvashia reported a mass poisoning of schoolchildren. According to the agencies, expired food was found in the school.

The prosecutor's office reported that during the inspection, the school tried to take out expired food through the emergency exit of the canteen. The agency published a photo of a package with a chicken carcass with an expiration date of October 24.
