The French head of state rejected calls for resignation, noting that he would fulfill the five-year mandate entrusted to him "to the full to the end.
The mandate that you have democratically entrusted to me is a five-year mandate, and I will fully fulfill it until it ends. My responsibility requires ensuring the continuity of the state, the proper functioning of new institutions, the independence of our country and the protection of all of you,
He also announced that he would appoint a new French prime minister in the "next few days".
