Chinese President Xi Jinping held a meeting with Belarusian ruler Alexander Lukashenko, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated.
"China and Belarus are true friends who trust and support each other, good partners united by common development and prosperity, as well as comprehensive strategic partners. Relations between China and Belarus have withstood the test of changing international circumstances," the Chinese side said in a statement following the meeting.
It added that "in recent years, they have developed rapidly and entered their best period in history."
"Facts show that deepening comprehensive cooperation between China and Belarus meets the trends of the times and the fundamental interests of the peoples of the two countries," the Chinese side's statement noted.
Reuters added that Xi told Lukashenko that China supports Belarus in protecting its national sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, as also reported by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Lukashenko's visit to China took place after he held talks with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin last week.

"The meeting took place against the backdrop of growing tensions between Belarus and Ukraine, whose president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, believes that Putin is trying to force Lukashenko to increase his support for Russia in the war in Ukraine," Reuters notes.
Xi stated that China and Belarus "should maintain strategic communication, promote the continuous development of bilateral relations at a high level, and bring more benefits to the peoples of both countries."
China is ready to continue providing assistance within its capabilities for the development and construction of Belarus, Xi said.
Relations between China and Belarus are at their "historical peak," the Belarusian presidential Telegram channel reported earlier on Monday.
"This is exactly what we talked about with you earlier, - Lukashenko replied, according to a Telegram post. - And, perhaps, to some extent, what we dreamed of on the eve of this global cooperation between Belarus and... China."
