London police are conducting a new investigation into the sexual crimes of Mohammed Al-Fayed, which was facilitated by the statements of new victims, writes UNN with reference to the BBC.

Details

London police said they are investigating more than five people who may have contributed to Mohamed Al-Fayed's sexual crimes. Police have launched a new investigation after 90 new victims were announced following the release of a BBC documentary that revealed the extent of the billionaire's horrific behavior.

Prior to this, it was revealed that 21 alleged victims applied to law enforcement agencies. However, Al-Fayed died last year, and he did not have time to bring any criminal charges. The new charges relate to the period between 1977 and 2014, and the youngest victim was 13 years old.

According to London police captain Steve Kleiman, the investigation, titled "The Corn Poppy," will find out what role people "may have played by facilitating or allowing him to insult, and what opportunities they had to protect victims from his horrific violence.

I recognize the bravery of every surviving victim to share their experiences, often after years of silence

- noted the captain.

Despite the fact that Mohamed Al-Fayed is no longer alive, Steve Kleiman believes that this investigation can give the victims a voice. And now law enforcement officers are monitoring suspects who are probably involved in the businessman's crimes in order to achieve justice and gain trust from the public. An internal audit has now begun, which will review all previous investigations.

Police have already reviewed more than 50,000 pages of evidence, including victim and follow-up statements. Also, the police said they had received complaints from two women regarding previous police investigations. According to the information, the complaints "express concerns about the police response and how the details became public.

One of the victims of harassment by Mohamed Al-Fayed was Gemma, a former employee of the Harrods department store, which was owned by the billionaire. She said that the businessman, because of his large fortune, considered himself a very powerful person, and also that he was surrounded by "many professional people who contributed to everything he did.

Al Fayed owned one of the world's largest department stores, Harrods, between 1985 and 2010. In response to the latest investigation, a department store spokesperson said they "sincerely" support him. He also added that they continue to encourage all victims to cooperate with the London police.

However, the new owners of the department store have previously stated that they are "stunned" by the allegations of sexual assault and since 2023 have been checking whether any of the current employees were involved.

Harrods employees aren't the only ones affected by Al-Fayed's actions. There is information that he also abused women in other businesses that he owned, including the Ritz Paris hotel and Fulham Football Club.
