The peak activity of ixodid ticks is beginning in the capital. The number of Lyme disease cases in Kyiv increased by a third last year, and the first carriers of the infection were detected in parks as early as the beginning of March. This was reported by the Department of Health of the Kyiv City State Administration, citing information from the State Institution "Kyiv City Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine," writes UNN.

It is noted that 2025 showed a rapid increase in incidence: 649 cases of Lyme disease (ixodid tick-borne borreliosis) were registered in the capital, which is 34.1% more than in 2024.
During the first three months of 2026, 12 cases of Lyme disease were recorded. Half of the infections occurred in the city's green areas
Entomologists predict that the number of ticks will significantly increase in April-May. Therefore, to minimize the risk of bites, doctors recommend that residents of the capital:
- use repellents when walking in parks and forest belts;
- choose light-colored clothing on which ticks are easier to spot, and cover exposed areas of the body;
- inspect themselves and pets every two hours during a walk and обязательно after returning home.
- in case of a bite – immediately contact the emergency room and consult with an infectious disease doctor.
