Kuleba: Bringing Russia to justice will ensure a future without war for Europe

Russia's imperial crimes and lack of accountability have enabled its current war of aggression against Ukraine, so holding Moscow accountable now is crucial to ensuring a war-free future for Europe.

During an official visit to the Netherlands on April 2, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba took part in a ministerial conference on "Restoring Justice for Ukraine." During the final press conference, the Foreign Minister emphasized that Moscow's current expansionist policy is inextricably linked to impunity throughout Russia's imperialist history. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, UNN reports.

Details

Russia is the only empire in the world that avoided decolonization after two world wars in the 20th century. All other empires ceased to exist and were forced to let go of their colonies. Moreover, Russia is the only empire that has not only survived to the present day, but has never, I emphasize, never admitted guilt for its imperial crimes and has not been punished for them

said Minister Kuleba.

Dmytro Kuleba emphasized the historical importance for Europe and the whole world of bringing imperial Russia to justice. Otherwise, Moscow will continue its war of aggression and atrocities.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that Ukrainians demand justice for Russian crimes now, not in the distant future. In this context, he welcomed the positive decisions made following the  ministerial conference.

I am glad that today's conference has brought the tangible results that Ukrainians expect.  First of all, the Register of Damages has been launched. Ukrainians can already submit their applications for compensation for damaged or destroyed housing. We would welcome further expansion of the scope of the Register and the types of requests available

He emphasized.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of the political declaration adopted at the end of the conference, which has already been signed by 44 countries and remains open for signature.

In particular, the Declaration welcomes the discussion on the confiscation of frozen Russian assets and their proceeds in favor of Ukraine. The first decisions on the use of frozen Russian assets in favor of Ukraine have already been made, and this work should achieve greater results this year. The document also calls for full accountability for the crime of aggression. This is an important basis for further work on the establishment of a full-fledged Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine

the Minister summarized.
