"Sank due to sanctions": NSDC Center for Policy and Defense Analysis on the accident of the Russian vessel Ursa Major

The Russian ship Ursa Major sank in the Mediterranean Sea due to the critical technical condition of the Russian fleet due to the war against Ukraine and sanctions, according to the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, reports UNN.

Details

According to official information, the ship Ursa Major was transporting port cranes, and the destination was supposed to be Vladivostok. However, as indicated by the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, in May 2022, the US imposed sanctions on Ursa Major due to the ship's involvement in transporting military equipment for Russian troops in Syria.

The ship belongs to the sanctioned Russian shipping company LLC "SK-Yug". Therefore, it is likely that Ursa Major was actually transporting Russian weapons from Syria.

The incident was at least the fifth with Russian ships in the last 2 weeks. This is another consequence of the critical technical condition in which the Russian fleet is due to the war against Ukraine and sanctions

- stated the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council.

Reminder

The Russian merchant ship Ursa Major sank in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Spain. Fourteen crew members were brought to the port of Cartagena on Monday evening, and two more are considered missing.
