In the Ivano-Frankivsk region, 25% to 90% of children will not be able to study full-time in secondary education institutions because there are no shelters. This was announced at a meeting in the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Military Administration by the Director of the Department of Education and Science Viktor Kimakovych, UNN reports with reference to Suspilne.

According to him, there are 553 secondary education institutions and 119 branches in the region, where 158,800 children study. About 7,000 of them are internally displaced persons. There are also 457 pre-school education institutions in Ivano-Frankivsk region, which are attended by 34 thousand children.

"There are 134 institutions in Ivano-Frankivsk district that do not have permanent shelters. That is, 25% of students in Ivano-Frankivsk district will not be able to attend educational institutions. In Kalush district, the number is 40.5%, in Kolomyia district - 31.5%, in Kosiv district - 60%, in Nadvirna district - almost 36% and in Verkhovyna district - 90%," said Viktor Kimakovych.

According to him, in August, the Cabinet of Ministers will issue a decree according to which educational institutions will have to install external and internal shutters, reinforce exterior walls with reinforced concrete structures, and use gabions (a spatial mesh structure filled with bulk materials used in regulatory and coastal protection and fortification structures - ed.) It is also necessary to cover the windows from the inside with sandbags and reinforce the doorways. Viktor Kimakovych says that these are temporary technical solutions that allow the school to start the academic year in full-time.

Representatives of the State Emergency Service of the region, together with local authorities and police, inspected shelters in educational institutions, said Volodymyr Chernetsky, head of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service in the region. According to him, 308 shelters in schools do not have proper safety conditions.

"General secondary education institutions also use the simplest shelters located on the first floors. There are 29 in Verkhovyna district, 93 in Ivano-Frankivsk, 53 in Kalush, 77 in Kolomyia, 34 in Kosiv and 22 in Nadvirna. Most of these simple shelters are gyms, canteens, classrooms or corridors with windows, which create additional factors of damage and do not prevent the creation of proper security conditions," said Volodymyr Chernetskyi.

He added that 21 secondary education institutions with simple shelters on the ground floors have basements.

According to Volodymyr Chernetskyi, some communities have signed agreements with businesses that have shelters located no more than 500 meters from educational institutions. He also suggested considering the option of transporting children to schools equipped with shelters or organizing education on the basis of other municipal institutions.
