The new government of Hungary has lifted the ban on Ukrainian media that was introduced during the tenure of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. This was reported by Hungary's Minister of Social Relations and Culture, Zoltán Tarr, according to UNN.
Details
Together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we have lifted the ban on Ukrainian media, which was previously imposed by the Fidesz party. In 2025, the Fidesz party unilaterally banned Ukrainian publications in Hungary in response to Ukraine blocking those Hungarian outlets that did not adhere to journalistic ethics but instead spread Russian propaganda and fueled panic about a third world war
He emphasized that media outlets spreading Russian propaganda should not be confused with genuine, independent press, either in Hungary or internationally. According to him, "the ousted government constantly worked to dig trenches, and the blocking of these publications had no other purpose."
Our task is to establish good neighborly relations, which will help improve the situation of Hungarians abroad — this is a common national cause. By following this path, thanks to our previous historical agreement, we have achieved more in a few weeks than the removed government did in 16 years. We coordinated the issue of lifting the blockade with the representative of the Ukrainian national minority, Liliana Grexa; after the decision was made at her initiative, she noted that for the Ukrainian national community and the refugees living here, it is very important to have the opportunity to receive news about their country in their native language
