Yemeni Houthis stormed the UN office in the capital Sanaa. According to the UN Human Rights Office in Geneva, the militias took control of 13 UN staff members and more than 50 humanitarian workers, as well as one embassy staff member. Some were also taken from their homes, located far from the office.

The incidents occurred on August 6 and 7. A UN spokeswoman said that the situation was initially kept quiet in the hope of a quick resolution. The UN High Commissioner has now turned to the Houthi formation. The Houthi military-political movement, which is an ally of Iran, initially refused to comment, Spiegel notes.

For reference

The Houthi movement controls the capital and a large part of northern Yemen.

A devastating conflict between the government, the Houthi militia and their allies has been raging in Yemen since late 2014. Saudi Arabia supports the government. The United Nations considers the conflict in Yemen a humanitarian catastrophe that has brought the country to the brink of famine.
