Heavy snow in northern England has forced motorists to seek for shelter or spend the night in their cars and cut off power to more than 2,500 households, AR writes, UNN reports.

Trucks are stuck in the snow, blocking highways, as drivers reported that it took them hours to make short trips, while others were forced to find places to stop along their routes or in their cars.

The fire and rescue service said it worked all night, to get drivers out of cars stuck in deep snow.
Schools, churches, and scout buildings were used to to provide emergency shelter for stranded travelers.
More than 2,500 people were left without power in Cumbria. It is expected that the power will be restored by late Sunday night.
The UK Meteorological Agency has issued a warning about ice in some parts of the Midlands, in the north of England.
