Heat in Kyiv has already set 10 records in July

Since the beginning of July, the hot weather in Kyiv has already set 10 temperature records, the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory reported on Monday, UNN reports.

According to the observations of the institution's weather station, on July 12, two temperature records were recorded in Kyiv:

  • The minimum air temperature in the capital was the highest for this day, as the temperature did not drop below 22.8°C. The previous record value for 2021 was exceeded by 0.8°C. 
  • The average daily air temperature was the highest on record for this day and amounted to 28.7°C, exceeding the previous record high of 1959 by 1.4°C and the climatic norm by 7.5°C.

On July 13, two temperature records were also set in the capital:

  • The maximum air temperature reached 35.4°C, which is 1.3°C higher than the previous record high in 1936. 
  • The average daily temperature was the highest for this day and amounted to 29.0°C, which exceeded the previous record high of 1951 by 0.7°C and the climatic norm by 8.3°C.

On July 14, meteorologists reportedly recorded three temperature records:

  • The minimum air temperature in the capital did not fall below 22.7°C that day. The previous record value of 1951 was exceeded by 1.6°C. 
  • The maximum air temperature reached 35.9°C, which is 2.7°C higher than the previous record high in 1951. 
  • The average daily air temperature was the highest for this date and amounted to 29.2°C, which exceeded the previous record high of 1951 by 1.8°C and the climatic norm by 8.2°C.

"A total of 10 temperature records have already been set since the beginning of the month," the institution said.
