The Harry Potter series has been renewed for a second season, with filming set to begin this fall, HBO confirmed, UNN reports with reference to the BBC.
Details
Although the network has not announced the title of the second season, it is believed that the series will be an adaptation of the second book in J.K. Rowling's wildly popular saga, "The Chamber of Secrets."
The premiere of the first season of the series, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," is scheduled for Christmas this year on HBO Max.
Writer Jon Brown, who worked on the first season and is also known for his work on the series "Succession," has been promoted to co-showrunner alongside first-season showrunner Francesca Gardiner. HBO previously announced plans to adapt all seven books in Rowling's series over a decade, with each season covering one book.
In a statement, Gardiner said that returning to film the second season this fall is part of plans to "overlap production schedules" as the first season concludes.
She added that bringing Brown on as co-showrunner was "key to maintaining our momentum."
"Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" will tell the story of Harry's first year at Hogwarts and his introduction to the new world of magic.
The first trailer for the series was released in March of this year and includes favorite moments from the books, iconic scenes, and snippets featuring the main characters.

Young actors Dominic McLaughlin, who plays Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, were cast in the lead roles following an open casting call involving over 30,000 children.
A casting announcement for Harry's nemesis, Lord Voldemort, has not yet been made, but Oscar winner Cillian Murphy and actor Andy Serkis have been mentioned as candidates for the role.
Last month, Ralph Fiennes, who played the original Dark Lord, stated on a BBC program that "Doctor Strange" star Tilda Swinton would be a "fantastic" choice for the role.
Filming for the first season began in July 2025. HBO Chairman Casey Bloys reported last November that work on the script for the second season had already begun during the production of the first.
A premiere date for the second season has not yet been set.
