The Islamist Palestinian organization Hamas and the secular Fatah party that governs the West Bank reached an agreement to appoint a committee to manage the Gaza Strip after the end of the war.
According to the plan presented today to the AFP news agency, which has yet to be approved by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, the committee will consist of 10-15 independent people.
The unit will report to the Palestinian Authority, which is based in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, and will work with local and international forces to provide humanitarian assistance and reconstruction.
A Hamas official noted that his group and Fatah have agreed on general terms, but are still negotiating some details.
