Energy Minister Galushchenko called on the IAEA to take tougher measures against Russia over the attacks on nuclear power plant substations critical to the operation of nuclear power plants.

The IAEA should take more radical measures against Russia over the attacks on nuclear power plant substations, Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko said, the Energy Ministry reports, UNN reports.

As noted, Ukraine is calling for more radical measures to be taken against the aggressor country, Russia, because of its attempts to provoke a radiation accident by attacking critical substations for the operation of nuclear power plants.

"We need to take more radical measures against Russia. Otherwise, it looks like a waste of time. After the IAEA emphasized the importance of these stations, the level of attacks is increasing. Another wave of massive attacks only confirms the seriousness of the situation," Galushchenko said at a meeting with EU ambassadors in Vienna.

On November 17, the aggressor, according to the Ministry of Energy, deliberately attacked critical substations, which, according to the IAEA's official conclusion, are critical to the safety of nuclear power plants.

"Blackout or emergency shutdown of nuclear power plants is their top priority. Therefore, the risks of any nuclear accident are incredibly high," the Energy Minister told the European representatives.

Thanks to the air defense forces and coordinated actions of Ukrainian power engineers, a catastrophic scenario was avoided. However, Russia does not give up its attempts to destroy the critical infrastructure for nuclear energy.

The Minister of Energy also provided details of this morning's shelling, which put the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP on the verge of blackout for the second time in a week.
