FSB agents spied on maritime security of Odesa region under the guise of brides: detained

Law enforcers detained two more members of the FSB agent network operating in Odesa and Dnipro regions. They were spying on the maritime guard of Odesa region under the guise of brides , the SBU said on Thursday, UNN reported . 

According to the SBU, a 23-year-old Odesa resident and his 18-year-old fiancée were scouting the locations of border guard detachments of the maritime guard defending the port city's waters on the instructions of the Russian secret service.

To obtain intelligence,  they went around the area under the guise of bridal walks and took pictures against the background of the "right" objects.

In case of receiving relevant intelligence information, the occupiers planned to use it for air strikes on the locations of Ukrainian defenders

- Service indicated. 

However, the "bride and groom" were caught red-handed while spying near a potential target.

During the investigation, law enforcement officers found that the Odesa resident was also tasked with posting 100 provocative leaflets against mobilization and setting fire to a local power substation.

According to the investigation, the young man came to the attention of the occupiers in May of this year through anonymous chats in the Telegram channel, where they discuss issues of evading mobilization. After recruitment, he involved his girlfriend in the "activity".

During the searches of the detainees' homes, cell phones with evidence of the crimes were seized. A bank card that received money from the FSB and a batch of anti-Ukrainian leaflets were also found.

SBU investigators have now served the Russian agent a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).

The criminal actions of his accomplice are classified under Part 2 of Art. 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized dissemination of information on the movement of weapons to Ukraine, movement or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine if they can be identified on the ground).

Currently, the agent is in custody, and the issue of choosing a preventive measure against his accomplice is being decided. They face 8 years to life in prison.
