Fire at ZNPP: Russians did not allow IAEA experts to inspect the site of the incident

Russian occupation forces controlling Zaporizhzhya NPP did not allow IAEA experts to enter the cooling tower where a fire broke out recently. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Mykola Kolisnyk during a telethon, UNN reports .

Experts inspected the territory of the ZNPP and recorded the absence of elevated radiation levels after the fire that the Russians organized the day before.

After the inspection, the experts asked for access directly to the inside of the cooling tower (...), where they assumed there might be some damage. But the experts were not granted access there. Therefore, the IAEA did not draw any final conclusions on the circumstances of the fire based on the data obtained

He also emphasized that during the occupation of ZNPP, Russians have repeatedly violated the principles of nuclear safety.

According to him, it is possible to guarantee the prevention of nuclear and radiation accidents or other consequences only if ZNPP is returned under the operational control of Ukraine
