Director of the Main Astronomical Observatory: The number of objects in space is already off scale, some of them prevent astronomy from studying deep space

The situation in near-Earth space is a disaster. The number of objects is already so high that some of them prevent astronomy from studying deep space. This was discussed during the discussion on the topic: "Human garbage is already in space. When and how did it appear there and is it harmful to the Earth and people?" said Yaroslav Yatskiv, director of the Main Astronomical Observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, UNN reports .

Details

I agree that near-Earth space is a disaster. The number of objects is already off the charts, and some of them prevent traditional science - astronomy - from studying deep space. The same satellites of Elon Musk completely interfere with the work of ground-based telescopes and space telescopes. We see all this noise on the footage, all these satellite flights

- Yatskiv said.

He noted that the UN is considering the issue of combating space pollution in order to preserve places on Earth where people can continue to observe the starry sky.

Yatskiv also emphasized that Ukraine had a large network of optical observations, where both active satellites and space debris were observed.

Unfortunately, the aggression of the Russian Federation has led to the fact that the National Academy of Sciences no longer funds such a network, and the state also has no national space program. Ukraine should return to the study of space debris. We are especially interested in geostationary orbit, where there are currently more than 1000 objects

- Yatskiv added.

Recall

A Florida resident had an unusual experience - "something" from space broke through the roof of his house and fell inside. It is currently suspected that this could be debris from the International Space Station, so NASA is now investigating the matter.
