Due to the "tense situation" in Europe, Croatia will begin compulsory military service on January 1 next year, Croatian Defense Minister Ivan Anusic has announced.

Croatian Defense Minister Ivan Anušić has announced new details on the introduction of military service: from January 1, 2025, Croatia will reintroduce conscription. Accordingly, those who meet the requirements will have to undergo 2 months of training with the army.

The term will last two months and will begin on January 1, 2025... We have increased the salaries of soldiers, non-commissioned officers and officers, their material rights not only through personal income, but also through per diems

According to the head of the Croatian defense ministry, the current focus is on equipping and modernizing the Armed Forces.

We are organizing them as expected and as we have agreed with our NATO allies and the NATO leadership. I think that we will have a much better, stronger and better image of the Armed Forces than before

- Anušić said.

At the same time, the official noted that there would be no room for savings in equipping the Armed Forces.
