The opening of a diplomatic mission in Anchorage, Alaska, is considered a key step in resolving relations between Canada and newly elected US President Donald Trump. These relations have recently been strained by his intentions to impose high tariffs and pressure to strengthen border security.
"Canada needs to be strong in the North American Arctic, and this requires deeper cooperation with its biggest ally, the United States," Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie said in the document.
Canada considers it important to maintain close ties with the five Northern NATO allies. For this purpose, a dialogue on security in the Arctic will be initiated with the foreign ministers of partner countries in this region.
