The Rada proposes to reduce the NMT to three subjects starting from 2027. Mathematics may become an elective instead of a mandatory subject for all applicants.

A group of 50 People's Deputies has registered an alternative to the government's bill, No. 15254-1, in the Verkhovna Rada, which proposes changing the rules for conducting the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT) during martial law. This was reported by People's Deputy Yulia Hryshyna on Facebook, according to UNN.

Details

According to her, the document proposes reducing the number of NMT subjects to three starting from 2027: two mandatory subjects—Ukrainian language and the history of Ukraine—and one subject of the applicant's choice. The authors of the initiative believe that the current four-subject model creates excessive psychological pressure and additional risks under wartime conditions.

Separately, the deputies propose making mathematics a non-mandatory subject for all applicants.

Mathematics remains, but as an option for the student to choose for admission to relevant specialties. It is strategically important for the state to support technical and engineering specialties; however, introducing a mandatory mathematics exam for all specialties does not solve the problem, but only complicates it

– Hryshyna noted.

The MP emphasized that the changes are aimed at keeping young people within the Ukrainian education system and reducing the outflow of applicants abroad. She also cited survey results showing that 91% of teachers report a decline in students' academic performance due to the consequences of war, stress, and prolonged distance learning.
