Biden admits he 'screwed up' during debate - Politico

US President Joe Biden has admitted that he "screwed up" and "made a mistake" during last week's presidential debate. Politico writes about it, UNN reports.

"I had a bad night. I didn't have a good debate. It's 90 minutes on stage. Look at what I've done in 3.5 years," Biden told Earl Ingram on WAUK radio.

The publication notes that the US president gave a pre-recorded interview to two radio stations - WAUK and WURD, the only African-American-owned and operated talk radio station in Pennsylvania - in an attempt to calm Democratic nerves

In recent days, he has outlined a busy agenda: inviting more than 20 Democratic governors, calling congressional leaders, giving an interview to ABC News' George Stephanopoulos, and visiting the undecided states of Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. However, Democrats continue to call on him to make a decision about the future of his campaign, with some even calling for his resignation.

At a meeting with the governors on Wednesday night, Biden reported that he had undergone a medical examination and was feeling well, according to POLITICO. However, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and Maine Governor Janet Mills expressed concern about his chances of winning in their predominantly blue states, according to people with knowledge of the discussion.

In his interviews on WAUK and WURD, which aired Thursday morning, Biden discussed his record, Donald Trump, and issues affecting black Americans, a voting bloc he has been trying to keep on his side. Ingram noted that he had originally planned to speak with Biden for less than 10 minutes, but the conversation lasted almost twice as long. On the WURD channel, he spoke with host Andrea Lawfill-Sanders for almost 15 minutes.

When Lawfill-Sanders asked Biden if Americans should be worried after his performance at the debate, Biden simply replied, "No.

"I had a bad debate," the president said, laughing. "But 90 minutes on stage doesn't erase what I've been doing for three and a half years," Biden added.

Recall

In recent conversations with aides, family members, and allies outside the White House, US President Joe Biden has been wavering between acceptance and defiance in the face of a dramatic shift in his political standing within his own party, following a poor debate performance. His family is pushing for changes in the campaign.
