 • 39636 переглядiв

August 7 is Lighthouse Day and Professional Speaker's Day. These holidays are dedicated to employees of navigation equipment and people who often speak in public. It is also the day of remembrance of the reverend martyr Dometius.

Today, on August 7, everyone can join the celebration of Lighthouse Day, UNN reports.

This event is also called the Day of Workers of Navigational Equipment of the Coast of Large Waterbodies in the form of a capital structure.

A lighthouse is a means of equipping sea routes in the form of a tower-type capital structure designed to mark dangerous places and passages for ships. This structure has a bright contrasting color that visually distinguishes it from the surrounding area. Lighthouses are equipped with a strong light source and, as a rule, are equipped with optical means to amplify the light signal to be clearly visible at night.

The first known lighthouse that has not survived to this day was the Pharos Lighthouse in the Egyptian city of Alexandria. The oldest existing lighthouse in the world is the lighthouse in La Coruña in Spain, which was built in the second century.

Today is also the Day of the Professional Speaker.

The event is dedicated to people who give comments for television, radio, and other non-operational platforms almost every day, and make public appearances.

According to one survey, 95% of people have a fear of public speaking.

Another study showed that people put the fear of death first among their fears, and the fear of public speaking second.

Therefore, another goal of this event is to overcome people's fear of publicity, to teach them to feel free to speak in front of an audience. Various events are organized for this purpose.

According to the church calendar, today is the day of remembrance of the Monk  Martyr Dometius.

The man was born into a pagan family, but decided to devote his life to serving the Lord.

Diomedes was a preacher and theologian, led an ascetic life, and lived in the desert for a long time. For his unwavering faith, he received the gift of healing and miracles.

During the renewed persecution of Christians under the Roman Emperor Julian, the Apostate Diothemius was captured, tortured for a long time and brutally, and then executed.

Denys, Dmytro, Mykhailo, and Petro celebrate their name days on August 7.
