Zhytomyr police detained a man who wounded two people with a knife. The perpetrator turned out to be a deserter; he faces a lengthy prison sentence.

In Zhytomyr, law enforcement officers detained a man who stabbed two passers-by and was running down the street with a knife. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Patrol Police of Ukraine.

Details

Patrol officers saw a man running across the road with a knife in his hands. They stopped, drew their weapons, and ordered him to drop the knife on the ground. He complied with these demands, after which he was handcuffed.

Subsequently, the police received information that a wounded man was nearby.

Inspectors immediately went to the scene and found the victim. He had lost a significant amount of blood, so the patrol officers promptly applied a tourniquet and occlusive dressings. Until the medics arrived, the inspectors monitored the wounded man's condition. He was later hospitalized. It is also known that there is another victim who was hospitalized by ambulance doctors

The detainee turned out to be a man wanted for going AWOL (unauthorized abandonment of a military unit). He has been notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 115 (Attempted Murder) and Part 2 of Article 15 (Attempted Criminal Offense) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The man faces a long prison sentence, up to life imprisonment.
