French state-owned railroad company SNCF has suffered a variety of sabotage attacks that were discovered on Friday morning. Several "simultaneous malicious acts" were committed overnight, affecting the LGV Atlantique, Nord and Est, SNCF announced.
As a result of the railroad disruption, about 800,000 passengers were stranded at train stations.
The TGV service from Paris from Montparnasse station to Brittany and southwestern Bordeaux was the most affected. For a long time, there was almost no train traffic at the station, but it resumed in the afternoon.
This afternoon, Patrice Vergriet, the French Minister of Transport, said that "traffic is starting to recover.
Meanwhile, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo assured that the attack on the high-speed rail lines "will not affect the ceremony" of the opening of the Olympic Games on Friday evening "because it has no consequences for the transportation network" of the Paris region.
