Apple and Microsoft have raised prices on a number of popular devices, including iPad, Mac, and Xbox consoles, due to a global shortage of memory chips caused by the rapid development of artificial intelligence. This is reported by UNN with reference to Bloomberg.
Details
According to the agency, despite massive investments by chip manufacturers, the shortage of components may persist for several more years. Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra stated that an improvement in the situation is possible no earlier than 2028, and currently "there is no prospect" of supply fully catching up with demand.

The shortage has already led to a sharp increase in the cost of microchips. In particular, the price of DDR5 memory chips, which are widely used in personal computers, has increased more than fourfold over the past year. Bloomberg Intelligence analysts predict that electronics manufacturers will be forced to continue raising prices on laptops, smartphones, and other devices.
The main cause of the crisis is the boom in the construction of data centers for artificial intelligence systems, which are massively buying up memory chips and logic processors. As a result, Samsung and SK Hynix are preparing new multi-billion dollar investments in production, but industry leaders warn that it will not be possible to quickly eliminate the shortage.
