An accident with a bus in Khmelnytsky region: 16 children in hospital, one in intensive care

As a result of the bus accident in Khmelnytsky region, 16 children were taken to medical institutions. One child and the bus driver are in critical condition in intensive care, the Prosecutor General's Office said, UNN reports.

"16 children were taken to medical institutions. One child and the bus driver are in critical condition in intensive care. (...) A 12-year-old girl and a teacher who accompanied the group died in the accident," the statement said.

Law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the accident. The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings over violation of traffic safety rules by a person driving a vehicle, which caused the death of several people (Part 3 Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) has been initiated.

According to the investigation, on August 13, at about 7:30 a.m., an accident occurred near the village of Vyshnopil in the Starokostiantynivska territorial community. The driver of a LAZ Liner bus was transporting a group of children accompanied by two adults from the village of Lyubar, Zhytomyr region, to the village of Mykulychyn, Ivano-Frankivsk region. In total, there were 21 people on the bus, including 17 children. The driver lost control and caused the vehicle to overturn.
