The number of Ukrainians who began to speak Ukrainian in everyday life has increased, and the number of those who highly appreciate their command of the Ukrainian language has reached 69.5%. This is evidenced by a survey conducted by the Razumkov Center and the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience, UNN reports.
The majority of respondents rate their command of the Ukrainian language highly. In 2024, 69.5% believe that they are fluent in the language, and 27.1% say that they understand the language well enough for everyday communication.
The preference for using Ukrainian as the main language in domestic communication increased from 46% in 2006 to 70.5% in 2024, reflecting a significant linguistic shift, likely influenced by the national language policy.
There is a significant increase in the use of Ukrainian in social and professional communication. By 2024, 75.5% of respondents say they will mostly speak Ukrainian with friends and at work or in educational institutions.
