"Last night, the Defense Ministry's air defense forces repelled a UAV attack on the territory of Volgograd region near Marynivka, and most of the drones were destroyed. As a result of the UAV's crash, a fire broke out on the territory of the Ministry of Defense facility. Fire and rescue services promptly started extinguishing the fire. There were no casualties," Andriy Bocharov wrote.
According to publicly available data, frontline reconnaissance aircraft Su-24MR of the 2nd separate reconnaissance aviation squadron (military unit 77978) of the 4th Air Force and Air Defense Command, formed on January 1, 2014 from the aviation squadron of the 6970th air base, which is part of the 7th Air Defense Brigade, are deployed at the airfield.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the alleged destruction and interception of 8 UAVs over the territory of Russia overnight.
"13 UAVs were shot down over the territory of Volgograd region, 7 - over Rostov region, 4 - over Belgorod region, 2 - over Voronezh region, and one - over Bryansk and Kursk regions," the ministry said.
