"Today, at dawn, border guards detained two men on the bank of the Tisza River," the regional office of the State Border Guard Service posted on Facebook.
The violators were reportedly stopped at about 4 a.m. 10 meters from the border by a unit of the Velyky Bychkiv Border Guard Inspectorate, who were on duty in camouflage uniforms.
"The detainees were residents of Sumy and Luhansk regions. As it turned out, a dentist and a stock market economist, having read advice on social media, decided that they could easily cross the reservoir in the dark, where 37 border violators have already drowned since the beginning of the full-scale invasion," the SBGS said.
"Border guards detained three more men who planned to cross to the Romanian bank of the Tisza yesterday in the area of responsibility of the Solotvyno department," the agency said.
Two of them, residents of Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovs'k regions, reportedly said they had paid the organizers of their trip $7,500 each. The third, a resident of the Transcarpathian village of Velyky Bychkiv, planned the route on his own.
Reports of administrative offenses under Art. 204-1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses "Illegal crossing or attempt to illegally cross the state border of Ukraine" were drawn up against the "swimmers", and the cases were sent to court.
