Europe needs to ramp up production of air defense systems and interceptor missiles as quickly as possible, as current volumes are already insufficient to counter modern ballistic threats. At the same time, Ukraine is negotiating with the United States to obtain licenses for the production of Patriot systems. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the NATO Defense Industries Forum, reports UNN.
According to the head of state, the full-scale war has proven that ballistic missiles remain one of the most dangerous threats, and existing production capacities are unable to meet the needs of countries requiring such protection. That is why, the President emphasized, Europe must invest in its own production of missile defense systems, and partners should support the expansion of Patriot production.
"We all highly value the Patriot system. It is an excellent system, and there are other effective complexes. But modern wars have shown that current Patriot production volumes are already insufficient to meet the growing need for protection against ballistic missiles. This is a fact, and we must respond to it. Those who protect lives need more Patriots. We have already discussed with our American partners the issue of licenses for Patriot production, and I ask you to support our efforts to make this a reality," Zelenskyy said.
The President also emphasized that the development of own capabilities for the production of missile defense systems cannot be postponed for years, as security challenges require an immediate response. According to him, the primary task remains protecting people's lives and strengthening the air defense of Ukraine and all of Europe.
