WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that he expects an increase in the number of hantavirus cases, UNN reports, citing Sky News.
Details
He stated that this is due to the time gap between the first case of hantavirus on the vessel MV Hondius and its identification as hantavirus, as well as the measures taken to prevent its spread.
"As I said in my speech regarding the increase in the number of cases, we expect an increase in the number of cases because, as you remember, the first case was recorded on April 6, and until the infection was confirmed around April 24-25, passengers were actively interacting with each other. As you know, the incubation period is between six and eight weeks. Due to this interaction while they were still on the ship, even while taking some preventive measures... we expect an increase in the number of cases,"
