Details

According to U.S. law enforcement, the man in question is Kim Jong Hyuk, a North Korean citizen who is allegedly affiliated with a hacker cyber group called Andariel.

According to the State Department, the group controls the DPRK's Main Intelligence Bureau, which is engaged in criminal cyber activities. Andariel targets foreign companies, government agencies, and the defense sector.

In particular, the group hacked into the computer systems of American hospitals and medical institutions, as well as installed ransomware and demanded ransom.

The hackers used the “ransom” money to finance their cyber operations against US government agencies, as well as US and foreign defense contractors.
