The U.S. State Department has approved the sale of 100 AMRAAM-ER air-to-air missiles to Norway for $405 million. The deal will strengthen the security of the NATO ally and improve Norway's ability to counter threats.

The U.S. State Department has approved the sale of AIM-120 medium-range air-to-air missiles to Norway for $405 million. This was stated in the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency, UNN reports.

Details

The agency has already provided the necessary certificates notifying Congress of the possible sale.

The Norwegian government has requested the purchase of one hundred advanced AMRAAM-ER missiles, as well as four AMRAAM AIM-120C-8 guidance sections and related equipment.

The total estimated cost is $405 million.

The proposed sale will advance the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by strengthening the security of a NATO ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe

- The agency explains.

In particular, the United States believes that this deal will improve Norway's ability to counter current and future threats. The country will be able to supplement or replace the 120B air interceptor missiles with more powerful AMRAAM-ER.

It is also noted that Norway already has AMRAAMs in its arsenal and will have no difficulty accepting these items into its armed forces.

Recall

The Japanese company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will become the main manufacturer of AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles. This will help ensure an uninterrupted transfer of missiles to Ukraine from the US Air Force.
