In Ukraine, the validity period of an international driver's license depends on the validity of the national document and cannot exceed it. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In particular, according to Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 340, an international license is issued for a maximum of three years, but its term is directly linked to the validity period of the national driver's license. If it is the first license, which is issued for two years, the international document is issued for the same period.
After the two-year period, the driver can exchange the first license for a permanent one, but provided there are no violations. In this case, the new document is issued for 30 years. At the same time, when re-issuing an international license, its term may be longer, but will not exceed three years and, as before, will be limited by the validity period of the national document.
An international driver's license can be obtained at the Ministry of Internal Affairs service center on the day of application. To do this, you need to submit a passport of a citizen of Ukraine, a foreign passport for correct spelling of the name in Latin, a valid national driver's license, and a photograph of the established sample.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes that an international license is not an independent document and is valid only together with a domestic driver's license. Therefore, before applying, it is worth checking the validity period of the driver's license, as it determines the duration of the international document.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs service centers urge drivers to familiarize themselves with the requirements in advance to avoid difficulties when traveling abroad.
