Details
According to the publication, on May 30, two men were riding a pedal boat near Lake Balaton. One of them had a fishing rod, with which he caught a catfish 183 cm long that had been swimming in the reservoir for about 20 years.
"The fish was well known to local residents. In the past, local fishermen had already caught this individual; however, due to its 'legendary' status, the specimen was unhooked and released back into the water. This time, that did not happen, and the fish—without access to water—ended up in the trunk of a car," the publication writes.
The publication adds that eyewitnesses who were allegedly present during the incident claimed that the men's actions provoked an immediate protest. However, they reportedly did not respond to the expressions of outrage.
According to officers from the 7th District Police Headquarters in Warsaw, a man who may be involved in the case has already been detained. He is a 57-year-old citizen of Ukraine.
