After the opening of the first cluster in the EU accession negotiations of Ukraine and Moldova, each country will continue to move along the path to European integration at its own pace, implementing different reforms. This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen after the conclusion of the "Moldova-EU" summit, reports UNN.
Details
Just last week we opened the first negotiation cluster with Moldova. This is a historic milestone on your European path, it opens the door to the European Union accession process, and it is recognition of Moldova's determination, courage and hard work. Because that is what lies behind it. You have carried out reforms under very difficult circumstances. You have stayed your course despite constant pressure and hybrid attacks from russia. This first cluster is about strong institutions, reliable justice and the rule of law. This is the foundation of the entire accession process. And with today's summit, the European Union and Moldova are taking another step forward together
Answering a question about the prospects for further opening of clusters, she emphasized that she is "only talking about Moldova."
I believe that a merit-based process is much better for Moldova than the term "as soon as possible." Because "as soon as possible" says nothing. But a merit-based process clearly points you to the foundations of our methodology, which was agreed upon by all 27 member states
