In our country, they plan to change the approach to driver liability for speeding. This was reported on July 1 by the First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department, Oleksiy Biloshytskyi, during a national telethon broadcast, as reported by UNN.
Instead of the current system with two main levels of violations, he proposed introducing a broader gradation of fines: the more a driver exceeds the permitted speed, the stricter the punishment will be.
Details
According to Biloshytskyi, current liability for speeding essentially provides for two main "steps" — exceeding by more than 20 km/h and more than 50 km/h. Instead, the new approach should make the system fairer and tie the amount of the fine to the level of danger of the violation.
The more the driver exceeds the limit, the stricter the liability. At the moment, there are only two, so to speak, steps. This is for exceeding by more than 50 and more than 20
What the new fines for drivers for speeding will be
According to the new gradation, liability will begin for exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 km/h. Such a violation would incur a fine of 680 hryvnias.
The next level is exceeding the speed limit by more than 40 km/h. In this case, the fine will be 2,040 hryvnias.
If a driver exceeds the permitted speed by more than 60 km/h, the fine amount will be 2,720 hryvnias.
The highest basic fine will be imposed for exceeding the speed limit by more than 80 km/h. For such a violation, the driver will have to pay 3,400 hryvnias.
Oleksiy Biloshytskyi emphasized that such a system should establish proportionality between the nature of the violation and the liability for it.
We see that a fair gradation is being established. The greater the violation, the greater the public danger, the greater the liability
What awaits systematic traffic violators
Separately, the First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department proposed introducing increased liability for drivers who systematically and significantly violate speed limits. This does not apply to all drivers who have received a fine for speeding, but specifically to those who repeatedly commit gross violations.
According to Biloshytskyi, increased liability will apply in cases where a driver exceeds the permitted speed by more than 60 or 80 km/h more than five times a year.
It is also very important to note that liability is being established for systematic severe violations, specifically for speed limit violators. And in the case of exceeding the speed limit by more than 60 or 80 kilometers per hour more than 5 times a year, increased liability will also be established at the level of 17,000 hryvnias for each subsequent time
Who will have the opportunity to pay a fine at a discount
If a driver needs to pay a fine for exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 or 40 km/h, they will be able to do so at a discount. To do this, the fine must be paid within the first 10 days from the moment of receiving the notification — then a 50% discount will apply.
Reminder
The Verkhovna Rada has registered a draft law on fines for exceeding the permissible noise level of vehicles. During the period of martial law, fines can range from 17 to 34 thousand hryvnias
