BlueBird Tech is developing a Ukrainian analog of the Patriot for intercepting ballistics. The project is at the starting stage and requires the creation of complex guidance systems and engines.

The Ukrainian  company BlueBird Tech has announced the start of development for its own anti-aircraft missile system capable of intercepting ballistic missiles. This was reported by Defense Express, according to UNN.

Details

The project involves creating a system on par with the American Patriot, aimed at reducing Ukraine's dependence on foreign missile supplies, particularly amid the shortage of MSE interceptors.

The company, known for producing FPV drones, electronic warfare systems, and the "Bebradrone," has only recently opened its rocket science division and is currently seeking engineers. No technical specifications for the future system have been disclosed at this time.

Key Technical Challenges

Creating such an air defense system requires complex technological solutions. In particular, the system must include a powerful radar station for detecting and tracking ballistic targets.

The Ministry of Defense stated that the military has already received twice as many interceptor drones as in the entire year of 202527.04.26, 22:44

The interceptor missile must feature a high-precision seeker head and ensure a direct hit at speeds of several km/s based on the "hit-to-kill" principle.

Also required are:

  • a powerful solid-fuel engine
    • the ability to maneuver under high G-loads
      • gas-dynamic rudders for flight correction

        Limitations and Risks

The company lacks experience in rocket manufacturing, so development could be lengthy and resource-intensive. It is likely that cooperation with other Ukrainian and foreign manufacturers will be necessary to implement the project.

Experts note that creating a system for intercepting ballistic missiles is one of the most difficult tasks in the field of air defense, so a quick result should not be expected.
